November 6, 2015: Inside Hollywood's Notorious Party House, Republican Debate Will Stream Online for Free, a Look at New York’s "Next Architectural Spectacle"

1. INSIDE HOLLYWOOD'S NOTORIOUS PARTY HOUSE: With gaudy lighting and interiors set up to host blowouts of more than 300 people, a number of private home used for private events have collectively earned the moniker of “Hollywood's most notorious party house.” Developer Danny Fitzgerald counts Justin Bieber, Zendaya, and Mark Zuckerberg among his high-profile clients. The Hollywood Reporter: “When pressed, the unmarried Fitzgerald — who for years was co-owner of Century City's massive Century Club, which closed in 2007 (in its heyday it played host to Dr. Dre, Jamie Foxx, Ice Cube and Brandy) — freely admits these mansions were built to be bacchanalian, a by-product of his years throwing high-head-count lingerie parties attended by the likes of Wilt Chamberlain. His biggest Weidlake house boasts ‘a club-style bathroom with a makeup area,’ he says. ‘The disco itself holds 200 or 300 people.’ (Materials were selected with high traffic in mind, from Venetian plaster — ‘You can patch it after people mess it up’ — to the same 'indestructible' industrial-grade porcelain-and-ceramic floor tiles used at Hyatt Hotels.)” http://bit.ly/1GNCrTY

2. REPUBLICAN DEBATE WILL STREAM ONLINE FOR FREE: Fox Business Network announced it will stream Tuesday’s Republican debate in Milwaukee for free, opening the fourth such debate to a wider audience online. Politico: “While CNN streamed its Republican and Democratic debates for free online, both Fox News and CNBC restricted online streaming access to pay-TV subscribers, limiting the potential viewership on platforms other than the TV set. CBS News, the first broadcast network to host a primary debate, is also planning to livestream the Democratic debate on Nov. 15 for free. … by expanding its distribution and streaming for free online, Fox Business puts itself in a position where it is almost assured to have the most viewers for any program in its eight-year history.” http://politi.co/1OrN41k

3. A LOOK AT NEW YORK’S "NEXT ARCHITECTURAL SPECTACLE": A $325 million expansion of the American Museum of Natural History may become New York’s “next architectural spectacle,” according to one critic after taking a look at the renderings released to the public. The museum is a popular venue for prominent galas and other high-profile events, as well as host to more than 500,000 schoolchildren each year. The New York Times: “With reinforced-concrete arches and balconies shaped like immense rocky outcroppings or glacial formations, the hall vies with the Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda, the museum’s towering entrance on the opposite side of the campus. It’s part Dr. Seuss, part Jurassic Park, part parametric extravaganza, adding a kind of naturalism to abstract, airborne forms associated with contemporary architecture at its most theatrical. Does it sound like Universal Studios? Maybe a little, but in a museum of dioramas and dinosaurs, with a full-size model of a blue whale and a virtual solar system doubling as a planetarium, it should fit in.”
