The day before the Bryant Park tents opened, orange, purple, and red lights atop the Empire State Building heralded the start of the rag trade's weeklong runway blitz, and Trovata kicked off the shows with a short but energetic presentation at the Waterfront.
Instead of a DJ spinning records while models walked the runway, Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell (in Trovata apparel) surprised the 300 guests with a musical performance while nine members of the Capoeira Angola Center Mester JoĂŁo Grande troupe did acrobatic martial arts movements. Eight barefoot female models joined the troupe's semicircle, showing the preppy clothing and bopping along to the music.Following the show, the venue converted into an after-party of sorts, with drinks still flowing from sponsor Sagatiba's bar and a set from electronic dance quartet Brazilian Girls.
