Kennedy Space Center Launches Shuttle Simulator

This month, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will open its Shuttle Launch Experience, the first project in the facility's 10-year development plan. Three veteran shuttle astronauts (including Rick Searfross) provided input and feedback to a design team, who got together and built this 44,000-square-foot simulator to take guests on a journey that's as close to the reality of a space shuttle launch as it can be within the confines of Earth's atmosphere. The new $60 million attraction will be in the northwest corner of the main complex, where construction has already started, and it will be funded through revenue generated by visitor admission, food, and retail sales—which means no extra expenses for taxpayers.
