Industry Standard Leaves Party Tabs

When the publisher of The Industry Standard magazine shut down earlier this month, it owed $10.4 million to its 20 largest creditors, plus more to a long list of others, according to a story about the San Francisco company's bankruptcy documents in the San Francisco Chronicle. Among the folks the company owes are a host of suppliers used for some of its parties and conferences. The mag had a reputation as "a host of lavish parties," the story says. "Friday soirees on the Standard's rooftop became the stuff of legend." (Those parties also inspired a Standard event in New York last summer, which felt more like frat party than a business event.) The events apparently left unpaid bills with the Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, Calif., (where the Standard held its last conference in July), Liquor.com, Small Potatoes Catering, Alpine Party Rentals of Carbondale, Colo., Blue Chip Cookies and others.
