1. Hotel Melia Atlanta debuted Sky Twenty-Five in September, a sleek new meeting space that occupies the entire top floor of the 25-story hotel. The 6,400-square-foot space has panoramic views of the Atlanta skyline, Stone Mountain, and Centennial Park. The hotel has 502 guest rooms, a rooftop pool, and a ballroom that holds 700.

2. The owners of Atlanta Wine School opened Vino Venue as a culinary event center and wine emporium in October. Just outside Atlanta in Dunwoody, the 4,000-square-foot space has a tapas bar and lounge, as well as a versatile event room that can double as a private dining room. The modern atmosphere includes warm, subdued lighting, wood floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

3. Set in West Atlanta’s industrial warehouse district, Funkshion Factory is an artsy event space that opened in February 2012. The venue has hosted product launches, fashion shows, meetings, and workshops. Areas available for rental include a 6,000-square-foot workshop and event room, a V.I.P. booth, and a 25-seat conference room.

4. In 2014 the National Center for Civil and Human Rights will open downtown, adjacent to the World of Coca-Cola and Georgia Aquarium, housing exhibits about the civil rights movement and hosting arts performances. The 90,000-square-foot terra cotta building, crowned by a green roof in the shape of interlocking arms, will include flexible indoor and outdoor event spaces.

5. Currently in South Bend, Indiana, the College Football Hall of Fame is relocating to a new $100 million facility in Atlanta. The 90,000-square-foot space, slated to open in 2013, will include 30,000 square feet of exhibit space, private event areas, and a large outdoor screen for viewing games.

6. The city of Douglasville opened the $11.6 million Douglasville Convention Center in January. Designed to attract business from nearby Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the 35,000-square-foot facility will be three times larger than the existing Douglasville conference center.

7. Delayed for several years by the poor economy, a $57 million Marriott hotel at Gwinnett Center in Duluth is now in the development stages. The Gwinnet Center complex already includes a convention center, ballroom, and 13,000-seat arena, hosting 600 events a year.
