While many businesspeople are still a bit afraid to travel following the September 11 attacks, connecting people and events in multiple locations is increasingly important. (Even before this tragedy, coordinating production and connecting multiple events was an important challenge.) New developments in videoconferencing now offer convenient, fully interactive solutions that can connect events in dozens of cities via satellite links. Stratosphere Multimedia Corporation has connected events around the world by broadcasting them on the Internet and allowing crowds and speakers to interact over television-quality video connections. Stratosphere broadcasted an Al Gore campaign event that took place in Washington, D.C., to 22 cities (left), and linked Gucci's Paris-based Envy fragrance launch with venues in 28 cities so Gucci reps could field questions from reporters around the world. Stratosphere's Park Avenue headquarters also have teleconferencing spaces available (wired for 10 to 40 local guests) and has installed connections in ballrooms and conference rooms at 17 New York hotels. --Samantha Melamed
