VENUE: Asian Influences at TanDa

You've probably heard that part of the team that opened the now-defunct hotspot Moomba is entering the belated fall flurry of restaurant and lounge openings. But they're promoting TanDa as a showcase of chef Stanley Wong's Southeast Asian cuisine, not as just another celebrity hangout. Named for a Vietnamese poet, the Park Avenue South venue has a mix of Asian-inspired touches like brushed silk panels on the walls and red Chinese-patterned satin pillows. A curving black banquette lines the wall of the ground floor dining room, which seats 90 and used to house an off-track betting outpost. Upstairs is a bar, cocktail area and another dining area with banquette seating on slightly enclosed, raised platforms. The second floor can seat 80, and the entire restaurant can accommodate as many as 350 for cocktails. --Chad Kaydo
