Fresh Fusion
One wouldn’t necessarily think to blend Latin and Asian cuisines, but chef Richard Sandoval is doing just that at Zengo. Open since October 2005, the 165-seat restaurant has a primo location in Chinatown, steps from the Verizon Center. Decorated in vibrant orange hues, Zengo has a communal table in the bar area that seats 16 and a semiprivate room for 30.
Old Meets New
The 173-seat Urbana debuted in Dupont Circle last July, adjacent to the Hotel Palomar. The restaurant boasts slick Milan style (evident in matte chrome, white marble, and a backlit bar) balanced by traditional wine-cellar warmth. The glass-enclosed private dining room seats 10.
Penn Quarter's Latest Hit
Locals are buzzing about PS 7’s from chef Peter Smith (formerly of Vidalia), which opened in Penn Quarter last September. A blue wood wall passes through the restaurant, twisting and turning to carve out spaces for the 34-seat bar and lounge, 120-seat dining room, and private room for 20. The contemporary American mix-and-match menu is divided into seven sections of small and large portions.
New-Age Harbor Spot
Owned by the Family Farmers Across the Country consortium, Agraria is a contemporary American restaurant that opened in June 2006 in Georgetown’s Washington Harbour. Waterfront views play a big role in the 13,860-square-foot space, which offers several private dining options ideal for board meetings for 10 or cocktails for 100.
