Candy Shops for Private Events

Stacy Warden
October 14, 2008

You can put a nostalgic spin on a meeting or event by using these local confectioneries, where perks range from movie popcorn to chocolate-dipped marshmallows.

1. Open since December 2007, Lakeview's Candyality is available for full buyouts and can accommodate as many as 50 guests for a reception. Filled with confection-stuffed baskets and bins, the shop sells everything from JuJu Bees to vegan gummy worms. A gourmet licorice bar can be stocked with 10 kinds of candy for private events. A movie-style popcorn machine offers a saltier snack option. Candyality can provide non-alcoholic beverages, and planners are welcome to bring in liquor. The shop also comes stocked with an audiovisual iPod deck.

2. Margie's Candies, which specializes in ice cream sundaes and hand-dipped candies, has been a Chicago staple for more than 80 years. Decked out in vintage prints and old-fashioned knickknacks, the venue's Ravenswood location can seat 15 guests and host a reception for as many as 40. Margie's turtle sundaes are a popular option for groups, and non-alcoholic beverages are available. The shop is available for full buyouts.

3. Operated by Mars Inc., all 10 of Ethel’s Chicago-based chocolate lounges are available for private events and full buyouts. But it’s the company’s Lincoln Park spot, located in a vintage house, which boasts the most unusual setting. The space holds as many as 120 for receptions and has three areas for entertaining, including two outdoor patios and a more intimate second level. In addition to its signature chocolates, Ethel’s offers a fondue package that comes stocked with dippers like fresh strawberries, marshmallows, and shortbread. The shop's full line of hot and cold beverages can be crafted into drink packages for private events.
