VENUE: A Historic American Tavern

E1558disc 1029 Frauncestavern 1 152
Patriotism is very de rigueur right now, and choosing a historically significant American venue for an event is a good start to giving your bash a patriotic theme. And venues don't get much more historic than the Fraunces Tavern. George Washington bid farewell to his officers here at the end of the Revolutionary War in 1783. The historic restaurant, just below the Fraunces Tavern Museum, recently underwent a $1 million renovation. The space offers four dining rooms (like the Talmadge room, shown here), and upstairs is the cozy, loungey Washington room (did soldiers lounge after wars?) that features yellow and blue upholstered sofas, easy chairs and mahogany wood detailing. Murals depicting scenes from the war adorn the walls throughout the restaurant. You can hold a party and history lesson in one. --Suzanne Ito
