VENUE: Sleek, Modern Flatotel

Practically camouflaged by numerous other Midtown high-rises is Flatotel, a new 46-floor hotel. Designed by Glen Coben, the hotel's sleek lobby offers slate gray floors, muted white walls and modern chaise lounges covered with gray and yellow leather and a smattering of animal skins. (The 3,300-square-foot space can accommodate 180 for cocktails.) In the rear of the lobby stands Moda, the hotel's in-house restaurant, which features a full bar, a long communal dining table and a giant skylight. (The 1,600-square-foot spot can seat 90 or hold 120 for cocktails.) Executive chef Frank Whittaker's Italian-influenced American cuisine can be translated into an hors d'oeuvres menu, and Moda also caters meetings and events in Flatotel's penthouse suites. --Suzanne Ito
