Time magazine's new Time Style & Design special issue includes some thoughts on flower trends, but nothing that will surprise you if you've been going to recent New York events (or reading about them on BiZBash.com or in our newspaper, for that matter).
Combining dissonant colors and textures is the trend in flowers, according to Paris-based floral trend watcher Li Edelkoort. "Florists are crossing borders, mixing food and flowers, savage and romantic, dead wood and spring flowers, and eventually I think hardware and natural things," she tells the mass market mag.
Cutting-edge design partners Avi Adler and David Stark get a nice plug and photo of their work, but they also endure a snide bit of punctuation. "Maybe as florists eschew mere arrangement and become 'event planners,' their work becomes more ambitious, too," Time's Michele Orecklin writes, adding quotes and a condescending tone to a commonly held job title.
Surprisingly, the launch party for the issue—which is dedicated to new developments in design, after all—was anything but ambitious. Although Adler and Stark added some pretty touches to the already gorgeous new venue Gotham Hall, Time didn't have them do anything especially striking or out of the ordinary. (And anyone who has seen their work for the Robin Hood Foundation benefit knows they're capable of both.)
