Housing an extensive collection of Himalayan art, the Rubin Museum of Art will open in the former Barneys space on 17th Street in October. Redesigned by Richard Blinder of Beyer Blinder Belle, the museum will offer an array of event-friendly spaces: The large Chelsea Colonnade can hold seated dinners for 280 or receptions for as many as 300. The museum's Staircase Hall can hold as many as 225. On the lower level is a spacious 1,400-square-foot theater and an accompanying photography gallery, suitable for receptions. The Catering Company is the exclusive caterer and will operate a cafe in the museum. —Mark Mavrigian
