If you're thinking about locations for an event that's still at least two years away, you might want to keep the following three venues in mind: Lincoln Center, the Museum for African Art, and the Museum of the Moving Image. Here's what's happening with each of these sites.

The transformation of Lincoln Center is under way, with renovations planned and new facilities scheduled to open over the next few years. Alice Tully Hall closed at the end of April and is expected to reopen next winter with new features including a multilevel lobby and upgraded technology in the auditorium. Accompanying the campus expansion will be the addition of a Patina Restaurant Group establishment, slated to open in 2009 (in time for Lincoln Center’s 50th anniversary). Architectural firm Diller Scofidio & Renfro has designed a glass-enclosed structure with a sloping roof for the restaurant at the northern end of the plaza. Patina will offer casual street-level dining, outdoor terrace eating, an upscale dining area, and a private dining room. The northeast corner of Central Park will be the home of the Museum for African Art, which has been temporarily situated in Queens for the past few years. The building is expected to open in late 2009 and to contain 16,000 square feet of exhibition space and a 210-seat theater. To raise funds, a roof space overlooking Duke Ellington Circle will be available for event rental.

Also expected to open by 2009 is the renovated Museum of the Moving Image. The project, designed by Leeser Architecture, will add 32,000 square feet to the existing structure, and new equipment will allow video to be projected on surfaces throughout, filling the museum with moving images. On the list of new and improved spaces is a virtual environment where visitors will interact with 3-D images.
