Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar, an underground tequila bar and restaurant with a Mexican-influenced menu, opened this month in the Back Bay. The space offers a bordello-like feel with crimson velvet-flocked wallpaper, tufted leather seating, red lighting, tin ceilings, mismatched antique wooden chairs, and dark wooden flooring.

The venue is comprised of three distinct spaces: the 110-seat dining room, the main bar with seating for 12, and the tequila bar with space for 35. The tequila lounge offers a private space, tucked into the back corner of the restaurant, and a walk-up bar that is adorned with black alligator-skin tile and serves more than 200 tequilas, including a $450 shot of Cuervo 250 Aniversario. An exposed brick wall serves as a makeshift movie screen, where silent black-and-white Mexican films are projected.

Lolita’s menu, priced between $6 and $29, incorporates New England ingredients into Mexican food, including guacamole with jumbo lump crab and Atlantic lobster; three ceviches; six taco options; enchiladas; quesadillas; and main dishes such as garlic lime chicken, carne asada, and spicy mojo tuna. In addition to the tequila list, the drink menu offers cocktails, individual glasses or pitchers of sangria and margaritas, freshly muddled mojitos, and wines by the glass or bottle.

Available for buyout and private events, Lolita can accommodate groups of as many as 250.
