1. SANDY RELIEF CONCERT: An all-star lineup of musicians performed at last night's 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden. The six-hour telethon raised money—with the help of celebrities taking donations via Samsung mobile phones—for the Robin Hood Relief Fund. Notable performances included a Paul McCartney duet with former members of Nirvana, Adam Sandler performing a parody of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with the chorus, “Sandy screw ya," and the closing act of Alicia Keys singing “Empire State of Mind” with firefighters, police officers, doctors, and nurses joining her onstage. Time: "The sold-out show was televised live, streamed online, played on the radio and in theaters. Producers estimated that as many as two billion people could experience the show live." http://ti.me/VZoGcw

Billboard has behind-the-scenes details from the show, including this tidbit: "During Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi's epic duet of 'Born To Run,' the song's lyrics were displayed on a giant teleprompter, karaoke-style, in the middle of the floor." http://bit.ly/TQumzJ

2. BEST FLIGHT EVER: A KLM marketing stunt saw the airline upgrade several passengers on a flight from Amsterdam to Chicago, allowing them to enjoy a holiday party in the sky. Boom Chicago comedy group performed. KLM filmed the event for a promotional video: youtu.be/086a5y8bRi8

3. WHERE WE CHECK IN: Sports venues dominate the list of places Facebook users checked in to last year, with seven Major League Baseball stadiums on the top 10 list. Mashable: "You're likelier to attend multiple home games of the same team than see a bunch of concerts at the same venue in one year, and baseball stadiums often double as concert venues. That also helps explain baseball's dominance among sports; with a 162-game schedule, there are just so many chances to check in." http://on.mash.to/UCziJp

4. MONUMENTAL MISTAKE: Officials will remove an inscription on the Washington memorial to Martin Luther King Jr. New York Times: "Since the memorial opened in August 2011, critics have contended that the paraphrased quote—'I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness'—chiseled on the monument near the statue’s left shoulder misrepresents Dr. King’s words." http://nyti.ms/SSl6wm
