October 29, 2013: Olympic Sponsor Coca-Cola to Speak Out on Russia's Antigay Laws, Ellis Island Reopens After Sandy Damage, At Home With Event Eleven’s Tony Schubert

1. OLYMPIC SPONSOR COCA-COLA PLANS ANNOUNCEMENT ON GAY DISCRIMINATION: New Yorker: “A hundred days from the start of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, none of the marquee sponsors—among them Coca-Cola, Atos, Dow, General Electric, McDonald’s, Omega, Panasonic, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, and Visa—have stepped forward to aggressively protest Russia’s new anti-gay law. … Now Coca-Cola is scheduled to make an announcement about what actions, if any, it has planned.” http://nyr.kr/17U5U7d

2. ELLIS ISLAND REOPENS AFTER SANDY DAMAGE: Nearly a year after Hurricane Sandy shuttered the site, Ellis Island reopened to visitors Monday. New York Post: “The Ellis Island Immigration Museum hasn’t fully recovered from the floods that filled its basement; many of its more than 1 million photographs and other artifacts are still in storage, and officials haven’t yet repaired computers the public can use to research forebears. But visitors were able to return to much of the graceful main building, including some exhibits, and to absorb the island’s singular views of the nearby Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan.” http://bit.ly/17rzip0

3. AT HOME WITH EVENT ELEVEN’S TONY SCHUBERT: Tony Schubert of Event Eleven makes other people’s spaces look good for a living. But his home with celebrity stylist Joey Tierney shows he can do the same for his own space. The Los Angeles Times visited the couple’s Sherman Oaks home: “The result is a testament to both—a warm mix of charcoal woods and vibrant color, bold textiles and Tierney's own paintings, cozy nooks and a luxurious outdoor space inspired by a honeymoon trip to the Greek island of Santorini.” http://lat.ms/1dl6fVe
