May 8, 2014: N.F.L. Could Move Draft From New York, Planners React to Beverly Hills Hotel Boycott, Dinosaur Throws First Pitch at Baseball Game

1. N.F.L. COULD MOVE DRAFT FROM NEW YORK: The N.F.L. is considering relocating part or all of its annual player draft to other cities—New Orleans, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Arlington, Texas, and Canton, Ohio, are in the mix—because of possible scheduling conflicts with Radio City Music Hall. New York Post: “The league is considering the possibility of holding the first two days of the draft at Radio City, then moving to another city for the final two days. … A split-site draft might sound unwieldy, but the source said the league considers it viable because each team only sends a couple of representatives to the event.” http://bit.ly/1nriaWA

2. PLANNERS REACT TO BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL BOYCOTT: Event planners are seeking new venues or canceling events altogether in response to the boycott of the Beverly Hills Hotel, whose owner, the Sultan of Brunei, has enacted draconian antigay laws in his country. The losses so far have mounted to $1.5 million at the hotel and its famed restaurant the Polo Lounge and are likely to grow. Hollywood Reporter: "Unless things change, no one is going to be doing events there,” says one planner. “Even if you did try to hold an event there, it would be hard to sell tickets." http://bit.ly/1fRnBy0

3. DINOSAUR THROWS FIRST PITCH AT BASEBALL GAME: To promote the "Walking With Dinosaurs" arena show that is touring North America this summer and fall, a character named Baby T threw out the first pitch at a game Wednesday between the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals.
