Part of our list of New York's Top 10 Event Designers.
Company: Experiential Agency (XA)
Why He's Here: Musters has become a familiar name in New York for events, designing fetes such as the 2003 FiFi awards and plenty of marketing-minded corporate events for clients like Entertainment Weekly, Lucky, and Self. Since XA acquired his company this past January, he’ll serve as the creative director for the event communications agency, spearheading the creative division of the New York operations, which will allow him to expand his range of services but keep the vision of Musters & Company.
What He Does: Event design and production for Musters is all about creating an experience through a tactile environment, and bringing the product or brand to life with unusual items like a motorized, rotating chandelier created from 500 Target-branded martini glasses and a custom art panel at the Target party for Michael Graves.
Background: After studying sculpture and textiles at Alberta College of Art and Design and working as a costume and set designer for Broadway shows, he started Musters & Company in 1998, and from there rapidly built a reputation for artful designs and a youthful approach.
Trademark: With his Broadway experience, he believes every event should be treated like a theatrical production—constantly moving, never dull, and full of little surprises. By layering events with different looks and changes, he says he aims for his design to be like “peeling an orange.”
