First, our favorite thing about Time Out New York’s Eat Out tasting event at Skylight: TONY event manager Emily Prawda Weiss put blowups of capsule reviews of participating restaurants above each station, making the event feel like a live version of the magazine’s listings. Our second favorite thing: Skylight is big enough to put 37 restaurant tables around the room’s perimeter (nicely arranged in alphabetical order, from Aix to Xing) and leave plenty of room in the middle for bars and mingling—making this the least crowded tasting event we can remember. Our third favorite: There were enough trash bins for all those plastic forks and small plates. (The crush of people and trash is why we usually avoid this kind of thing.) Lastly, a suggestion: Why not put the names of the dishes on the blowups, too, so everyone knows what's being served?
