Fashion and celebrity magazines have been promoting themselves around the Fashion Week tents for years, so maybe it should come as no surprise for a publication from a different sector to try for a piece of the action. To jazz up the presentations of the spring 2007 collections in Bryant Park, Elle Decor teamed up with IMG to create stylish interiors within the tents. The occasion marked the first time an interior design magazine and decorator collaborated to produce a cohesive look for the temporary fashion venue.Elle Decor publisher Tracy Gavant pitched the idea of designing and accessorizing the tents to IMG vice president Fern Mallis and recruited interior designer (and Elle Decor contributing editor) Vicente Wolf to help. Gavant and Wolf partnered with various magazine advertisers and incorporated their products—lighting, furniture, and wall and floor treatments—into the decor scheme.
Providers’ wares included blue mosaic tiles from Sicis (which covered the adjoining café’s floor and, for a whimsical touch, planters in the shape of enormous high heel shoes outside the entry to the tents). Café chairs and tables came from Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn. McGuire, Mitchell Gold, and Janus et Cie supplied furniture in lounge areas. And a collection of elegant chandeliers from Niermann Weeks graced the large park fountain in the tents’ entry hall.
