Names: Emily Wright and Brit Carlson, co-owners and creative directors, Ruie & Grace, Washington
Launchpad: Wright and Carlson met while working as display artists for Anthropologie. There, they honed their skills creating one-of-a-kind displays using innovative techniques and eventually started Ruie & Grace in Washington with fellow co-owner Ashley Hubbard in 2013.
Party they wished they designed: “From the pastries to the hairstyles to the elaborate decor, the opulence of Marie Antoinette’s court would have been a sight to behold and design ... while it lasted,” Wright says.
Hidden talents: “Locating the nearest Chipotle, singing off-key, and finding the silver lining when we are deep in the weeds,” Wright says.
Favorite flower: Ranunculus. “We love their natural contradiction—a juxtaposition of delicate petals, quirky stems, and bold colors,” Wright says.
Signature aesthetic: “We always want the spaces we create to feel warm and inviting, but most importantly evoke the personality of our clients,” Wright says.
