Grammys 2019 Preview: Inside the After-Party's Renaissance-Inspired Catering

Spiaggia chef Joe Flamm created menus for the Recording Academy's official after-party, which will have a modern masquerade theme and performances from TLC and En Vogue.

The Recording Academy has released more details on its official Grammy Awards after-party, which takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center immediately following the ceremony on Sunday. Produced in-house, the event will draw 5,000 Grammy winners, nominees, industry execs, and other celebrities, and feature performances by En Vogue, TLC, and DJ Michelle Pesce.

Decor-wise, the event will have a modern masquerade ball theme with baroque and rococo decor, European cuisine, and an ambiance inspired by the Renaissance era. The party is designed to evolve as the night goes on, starting with lighting and entertainers that evoke the Marie Antoinette period, then leading into a garden party and ending with a darker masquerade theme. (Read more about the theme in our exclusive interview with Recording Academy event head Branden Chapman.)

Catering will come from Joe Flamm, the executive chef of Spiaggia and Café Spiaggia in Chicago. In partnership with Levy Restaurants, Flamm's menu was designed to complement the theme with four Renaissance-inspired food stations. The beginning of the night will see tray-passed appetizers such as beef shank and Frutti di Mare. Later in the evening, food stations called "Venice," "Glamorous," and "Renaissance" will serve a variety of dishes, many that are vegan, gluten-free, or nut- and shellfish-free. Dessert will take on a carnival theme, with gelato pops, French macarons, and mini eclairs and tarts.

The 61st annual Grammys will take place at the Staples Center, returning to Los Angeles after a brief stint in New York last year. Alicia Keys will host, and performers will include Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, and Diana Ross. Click through the slide show to see what the stars will be dining on after the ceremony, and look for our coverage of more Grammy-related parties next week.
