INDUSTRY NEWS: IBTM World, which runs November 19-21 in Barcelona, reports that representation from China at this year’s event has increased by 450 percent in net space from the previous year. There will be two China pavilions at this year’s show.

ABILENE, TEXAS: DoubleTree by Hilton will open next to the convention center in late 2021. The 206-room hotel will have 38,700 square feet of meeting space. 

LOS ANGELES: The annual Solvang Julefest will run November 30-January 3. The holiday-theme event will include a tree lighting event, an interactive Nisse Adventure experience, a parade, and more. 

The Resort at Pelican Hill has appointed Clayton van Hooijdonk director of food and beverage.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: South Florida Business Journal: “Publicly traded entertainment promotion company Live Nation has acquired a majority stake in Groot Hospitality, owned by one of South Florida's biggest nightclub and restaurant owners. David Grutman, known for opening and operating LIV and Story nightclubs as well as multiple upscale restaurants, will remain the C.E.O. of Miami Beach-based Groot Hospitality, along with executives Chris Cuomo and Mo Garcia.” 

Following Hurricane Irma, Postcard Inn Beach Resort & Marina in Islamorada has completed renovations to the Raw Bar restaurant and event space. The open-air space is now two stories and located 25 feet above the ocean. 

NEW YORK: Mexico City restaurant Nicos will open as a pop-up November 1-3 in celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Located at 163 Mercer Street, the pop-up will be held in partnership with the Infatuation and Tequila Don Julio. 

To celebrate its 40th birthday, Zagat will release the 40th Anniversary Edition of the Zagat New York City Restaurant Guide on November 12. On the same day, the company will celebrate with an event at Gramercy Tavern, presented by American Express and its Global Dining Collection.

SAN DIEGO: Fox 5: “Officials with SeaWorld Entertainment announced Monday they will open Sesame Place San Diego in spring 2021. It will be the first of its kind on the West Coast and the second Sesame Place in the country after a Philadelphia location that opened almost 40 years ago.” 

TORONTO: The 15th annual Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival will take place November 1-2. The event supports programs at Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, and University Health Network.
