Major Award Season Shake-Ups, Plus HBO's Digital Pride, Miami's New Hospitality Campaign, and More

NATIONAL: HBO will celebrate Pride digitally with daily LGBTQ programming and events running from June 18-28. Hosted on the Human By Orientation website, the experience will include musical headliners, drag brunch, underground DJ sets, queer comedy night, and more every weekend in June. Headliners include Janelle Monáe, Todrick Hall, and Kim Petras.

LOS ANGELES: The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced some shake-ups to this year’s Emmy Awards. The Creative Arts Emmys will be conducted virtually, and for the first time in history there will be no Governors Ball after-parties. The main Emmys ceremony is currently still slated for September 20; its format is still being discussed. 

The next Academy Awards will also have some changes, including a new date of April 25, 2021. (The show, which will air on ABC, was originally slated for two months earlier.) In addition, the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has been moved to April 30, 2021.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched Miami Shines, a recovery campaign to support hotel- and tourism-industry openings across Greater Miami and the beaches. The program includes promotional incentives across restaurants, hotels, museums, spas, and attractions.

NASHVILLE: BentallGreenOak, Flank Management LP, and Geolo Capital have joined in a three-way venture to acquire the Hutton Hotel. The Four-Star, Four-Diamond Hutton Hotel is home to 250 guest rooms and suites, Writers Studios for musicians, and a social club and entertainment venue for live performances.  

WASHINGTON: The Washington Ballet hosts its first-ever virtual gala on June 18 at 7 p.m. The event will celebrate 75 years of The Washington School of Ballet with five performances by company dancers, appearances and tributes by very special guests, and more.
