MONTREAL: Looking for an eco-friendly gift idea? Montreal’s Salon des Artisans Récupérateurs, an online holiday market specializing in sustainable gifts from local artisans, runs from Nov. 30 to Dec. 6. It's hosted by the organization Environnement Jeunesse, which is also hosting a series of panel discussions, eco-focused fashion launches, and contests.
TORONTO: Toronto’s annual Holiday Fair in the Square launched a virtual marketplace on Dec. 1. The holiday tradition from Epilepsy Toronto typically showcases small businesses in Nathan Phillips Square; now, shoppers can browse a selection of individual business pages to find holiday gifts. A portion of the proceeds benefits the nonprofit.
Union Station launched a holiday event Nov. 20; presented by TD, the exhibit runs until Jan. 3 at Front Street Plaza. It features installations of icy cliffs and glaciers, as well as a depiction of a frozen waterfall and the station’s largest-ever Christmas tree. Sound and light shows run throughout the day, and social distancing protocols are in place.
VANCOUVER: The Vancouver Island Symphony’s Christmas Under the Big Tent concert series has been canceled. The symphony’s brass quintet had originally been scheduled to perform a series of small, outdoor concerts from Dec. 6-13, but the concept is no longer viable under new local restrictions. The symphony will livestream a Christmas concert Dec. 4.
WHISTLER, BC: Due to COVID-19, Nordiq Canada has canceled all of its domestic ski events scheduled for the 2020-21 season, including the Canadian World Championship Trials that had been scheduled for Whistler Olympic Park in January.
