CANADA: Grand Prix Updates, Music Festivals Return to Vancouver, an Inclusive Film Festival and More

NATIONAL: The East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) are taking place virtually this year from June 9-13. Organizers originally planned to hold the event in Sydney, Nova Scotia, in May, but moved to an all-virtual model due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. The awards will be livestreamed via ECMA’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, and further details about the event lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.

MONTREAL: The Canadian Grand Prix has been canceled for the second year in a row due to COVID-19. Officials announced that the contract to hold the race in Montreal has been extended by two years, which will cost partners $25 and $26 million, respectively. The Formula One race was originally scheduled to take place June 13 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and is being replaced by one taking place in Istanbul, Turkey.

TORONTO: The sixth annual ReelAbilities Film Festival (RAFF) is taking place May 19-31. RAFF showcases Canadian and international short films, features and documentaries about deaf and disability cultures created by filmmakers and actors with disabilities and/or who are deaf. The 13-day event will feature workshops, a comedy night and screenings for over 20 feature films, all with open captioning and a sign language interpreter.

VANCOUVER: Westward Music Festival is taking place Sept. 8-13, marking the first in-person music festival to take place in the city in nearly two years. Tickets are now available for the festival, which aims to celebrate local and international music and is currently scheduled to take place over multiple venues including the Vogue Theatre, Biltmore Cabaret, Imperial and more.

Tidewater Cove Marina is a new restaurant and event space coming to Vancouver this summer by the father-daughter team behind Hammond Kitchen & Craft Bar in Camas. The menu will feature high-quality seafood, including a raw bar and sushi menu, plus a full-service outdoor patio, fire pits and lots of space. An exact opening date will be announced within the coming weeks.
