NATIONAL: The SEARCH Foundation has announced its incoming board of directors for 2022, which includes chairwoman Kate Patay of Patay Consulting, vice chair Patrick McMichael of Denon & Doyle, treasurer Larry Green of International Event Products, secretary David Lombardo of Lombardo’s and executive advisor Joann Roth-Oseary of Someone’s in the Kitchen, along with a variety of directors from across the event industry. The SEARCH Foundation exists to assist event, meeting, catering and hospitality professionals faced with a crisis.
STEM Expo, Canada’s largest youth STEM outreach and promotion event, will take place virtually from May 18-20, 2022, as part of the Canada-Wide Science Fair. The expo is expected to draw more than 50,000 online participants. The event is free for all attendees and will be hosted on the ProjectBoard platform powered by engineering.com.
CALGARY: The International Christmas Market is back at Spruce Meadows after being canceled last year. The market will be held over two weekends, Nov. 26-28 and Dec. 3-5. More than 190 booths will be featured in locations such as Spruce Meadows’ Equi-Plex, Gallery on the Green Congress Hall, Horizons Pavilion, Twin Peaks Pavilion and Courtyard. Attendance will be limited each day of the event, and tickets must be purchased in advance.
TORONTO: Plans for the upcoming eSports, entertainment and hotel complex at Toronto's Exhibition Place have been revamped following criticism. The main change to the OverActive Media-owned venue is to the 7,000-seat stadium, which will now have a gently sloping green roof rather than the previously announced rounded top, along with other minor changes to the hotel complex. The project is expected to be complete in 2025.
VANCOUVER: The 21st Annual Chutzpah! Festival, a Jewish arts and culture festival, will take place Nov. 4-24 with comedy shows, dance and theater performances, mixed media displays and concerts from artists across Canada as well as Israel, the United States and the United Kingdom. The event is taking place both in person at venues across Vancouver, as well as virtually, and it kicks off tonight with an opening-night screening of the Marx Bros. classic A Night at the Opera accompanied by singers from City Opera Vancouver.
