NATIONAL: Maritz Global Events has become a signatory of Net Zero Carbon Events, a joint commitment across the event and meeting industry to achieve the targets laid out in the Paris Climate Accord. Supported by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, more than 100 industry-wide stakeholders drafted and finalized this commitment, which is facilitated by the Joint Meetings Industry Council.
CALGARY: The Stampede Open beach volleyball event takes place in Calgary July 7-10. The 48-team volleyball tournament, which features world-class athletes from as far away as Brazil, will feature 24 men’s teams and 24 women’s teams. It takes place in the parking lot of Deerfoot Inn & Casino.
MONTREAL: Riverside St-Henri will host a pop-up ice bar inside a 40-foot-by-20-foot inflatable igloo, sponsored by Cointreau and Grey Goose. Appropriately called Hiverside, the bar, which opens Dec. 10, is being built and designed by renowned ice sculptor Julien Doré of Hôtel de Glace fame.
VANCOUVER: Hotel Belmont Vancouver has joined Accor’s global portfolio of hotels and resorts as the first Canadian property in the MGallery Hotel Collection. The 82-room boutique hotel, originally built in 1912, will maintain its identity and retro-modern design but also incorporate MGallery branding. The property has a full-service restaurant and lounge with space for private events.
The 34th annual Christmas at Canada Place began Dec. 3 and runs until Jan. 2. The family-friendly outdoor experience features long-running traditions like the historic Woodward’s window displays, the Avenue of Trees and an illuminated 15-foot moose sculpture—all located amongst the holiday-themed Sails of Light display.
