NATIONAL: Thrillist will host “Slay Ride,'' a fundraiser for The Trevor Project, on Dec. 15. This second annual event will pay homage to a 1960s-style telethon—but with a drag makeover; it will be hosted by Manila Luzon and Monique Heart, stars of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. The livestreamed holiday special will bring audiences “shablam contests,” cocktail how-to’s and musical performances. The Paramount+-sponsored event will stream on Thrillist’s YouTube, Facebook page and website, as well as NowThis’ YouTube channel.
Global event solutions company INSPIRE, previously known as J & S Audio Visual, has hired Mike Mahaffey as executive vice president of show and event services. Mahaffey previously worked at Freeman.
MONTREAL: Taverne Tour has unveiled the performers for its sixth edition. Set to run from Feb. 3-5, artists will be performing throughout the city's Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood. The festival will be headlined by Of Montreal, and other artists include Cadence Weapon, Les Hay Babies, Bria, Adam Green and more. The second wave of performers will be revealed on Dec. 13.
TORONTO: Night Market Toronto will host its last event of 2021 at Square One from Dec. 17-19. The winter food festival will have more than 10 food vendors on-site, plus a mailbox to send letters to Santa and even a visit from the Grinch. On the last day, attendees are invited to bring their dogs for photo ops.
After taking a hiatus during the pandemic, Toronto’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display is back. Typically held at Nathan Phillips Square, this year’s event is moving to the waterfront. It will feature a 10-minute display at midnight that can be seen from anywhere with views of Lake Ontario; the city will also host a livestream from the CN Tower with live and prerecorded performances by local artists.
