NATIONAL: Restaurants Canada has rescheduled its annual trade show, The RC Show 2022, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. Organizers plan to host a hybrid edition—with a virtual experience powered by NexTech AR Solutions and an in-person experience at Toronto's Enercare Centre—from May 9-11.
EDMONTON: A weeklong food festival is happening in Edmonton’s Chinatown neighborhood from Jan. 13-23. The fifth annual Chinatown Dining Week will feature 18 restaurants offering food specials for set prices. All the participating restaurants are following COVID-19 protocols, and take-out options are also available.
TORONTO: Harbourfront Centre and Fjord Studio are teaming up to produce Nordic Lights, a new light-focused attraction on the city's waterfront that starts on Jan. 27. The event's installations will feature six interactive artworks by Canadian and Nordic artists, as well as a glowing LED-lit swing, a massive illuminated cube that reacts to movement and a video projected across the wall of the Power Plant.
The world’s biggest mining convention has been postponed to June. Originally slated for the first week in March, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada's (PDAC) annual conference will be hosted in-person at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from June 13-15 and online from June 28-29.
VANCOUVER: A new firm, Spencer Building Carrier Hotel (SBCH), announced plans to develop a 43,000-square-foot carrier hotel at the Spencer Building in downtown Vancouver. Construction is due to be completed in Spring 2023. Originally constructed around 1925, the Spencer building was the site of the Spencer’s Department Store and part of Simon Fraser University’s downtown campus.
