CANADA: A Light-Focused Winter Festival, Edmonton’s Tourism Initiative, Vancouver Festival Updates and More

NATIONAL: Preferred Hotels & Resorts—which provides sales, marketing and distribution services to independent luxury hotels globally—has promoted Dan Coyle to the role of executive vice president for the United States and Canada. Coyle brings more than 25 years of progressive sales and development experience, and he will lead the brand’s strategic direction in the U.S. and Canada for more than 250 member properties

CALGARY: Glow Winter Light Festival, a celebration of art through light, kicked off in downtown Calgary from Feb. 10-12 and will return from Feb. 17-19. This year, the Glow Festival of Lights will be happening alongside the Chinook Winter Blast and YYC Hot Chocolate Fest. Stephen Avenue and a few surrounding blocks will transform into a spectacle of bright artistic installations. The event will also include live performances both on and off the stages, as well as local food trucks. 

EDMONTON: Edmonton Destination Marketing Hotels Ltd. (EDMH) and Explore Edmonton Corporation have partnered to boost event attraction and marketing in Edmonton. EDMH will provide important funds to Explore Edmonton to fulfill marketing initiatives in the city's tourism and hospitality sector, in an effort to combat the pandemic’s effects on the industry.

VANCOUVER: Jericho Beach Park will be hosting the Vancouver Folk Music Festival from July 15-17. Tickets will go on sale this spring for the event, now in its 42nd year. The festival typically includes a market selling handcrafted goods by local artisans, a variety of food stands and the Little Folks Village for kids under the age of 12.

Submissions are now open for the 41st annual Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), which will take place Sept. 29 to Oct. 9. VIFF will present approximately 120 features and 80 shorts, as well as talks, conferences, performances and other unique events. A collection of titles will also be made available for online viewing.
