BANFF: The Banff Marathon returns June 18-19 and has already reached maximum capacity. A total of 2,500 participants will run through nature and wildlife, pass by the Vermillion Lakes and make their way along the Bow Valley Parkway. The race is themed after Banff National Park, and the marathon prides itself on being the only marathon in North America to take place entirely within nationally protected land. More than 300 volunteers are needed to put on the annual event, and the race committee is now asking for more people to sign up and lend a hand.
CALGARY: Adult-only event Spark After Dark is back through the month of April from 5-10 p.m. Taking place at the TELUS Spark Science Center, the entire venue is open for adults to enjoy hands-on experiments, expert speakers, full bar service featuring specialty, themed cocktails and more. Snacks and treats (like astronaut ice cream) will be provided by the Spark Eatery, and guests can catch a show in the recently renovated Infinity Dome.
TORONTO: Tickets to the Honda Indy Toronto go on sale April 14 as the event plans to make its return to the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule on July 15-17. Access to the “locker room of motorsports” will be possible with the purchase of a Paddock Pass, or for a more intimate experience, a Pit Pass can be added. More exciting announcements will be made as the weekend approaches, including who won the Honda Fan Friday, which offers complimentary admission courtesy of the Ontario Honda Dealers.
Toronto's community environment days have returned to 44 different community events for the first time since 2019. Over the next four months, the program aims to increase efforts to dispose of toxic materials, electronics and textiles in healthier, more sustainable ways. The next community environment day event is April 14 at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, and attendees are asked to bring electronics such as TVs, cell phones, cameras and radios; hazardous waste, including antifreeze, car batteries, bleach and so much more. A full list of what you can and cannot dispose of is available on the City of Toronto's website.
VANCOUVER: A Taste of Chinatown event will take place April 24 at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in honor of the public park's 36th anniversary.
