CANADA: Jasper Heritage Rodeo Shuts Down After 97 Years, a New Events Program in Montreal, a Pop-Up Handing Out Free Burgers and More

JASPER: Canada's only professional rodeo show to take place inside a national park has announced that it will shut down for good after 97 years. The Jasper Heritage Rodeo, an annual summer event featuring barrel racing, steer wrestling and bull riding, has been canceled the past two years due to the pandemic. Organizers decided at a general meeting on April 4 to hang up the lassos for good. They cited lack of volunteers, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and an ending lease with the federal government as factors that contributed to their final decision.

MONTREAL: The Palais des congrès de MontrĂ©al is launching its brand new Palais Optimization and Location for Events Program (POLE), a collection of more than 100 facilities available for rent for conventions, conferences, meetings and galas alike. Designed to optimize the Palais as an indispensable partner for events in downtown Montreal, POLE's objectives include keeping sustainable development at the heart while optimizing the Palais' occupation rate through investments in events (and, ideally, repeat events). An application form on POLE's website will determine if an event is eligible to enter the program.

TORONTO: On April 29, Burger Drops and Liberty House Apartments are joining forces to host a pop-up food truck in celebration of the Liberty Village community. The duo will be giving out free smash burgers and will even offer pet-friendly options. The food truck will be located at 15 Solidarity Way in Liberty Village from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m., marking the first time Burger Drops, which originated as a pop-up, will serve food out of a branded food truck.

VANCOUVER: From April 22-30, The Trout Lake Community Centre (TLCC) is celebrating Earth Day with a nature hunt at John Hendry Park. To participate, a Nature Hunt Passport can be downloaded. Attendees are tasked to go to each pink leaf on the map and read the information boards and perform a specific activity on the bottom of every board. After participants complete the hunt, they will return to the TLCC and receive a packet of seeds to take home and plant.

Throughout the rest of spring and into the summer, Tsawwassen Mills, a shopping center located 45 minutes outside of Vancouver, is hosting "Stargazer: An Immersive Experience in Outer Space." Here, guests will transport into a multi-sensory experience to gain a new perspective on the universe. Curated by the HR MacMillan Space Centre, Space to Spoon, the Canada Agriculture and Good Museum and the Canada Space Agency, there will be scale replicas of rockets, space stations and satellites, plus space-walk simulators and more. Tickets are available starting at $28 for attendees under 16 or over 65, and family bundles are available for $24 per person.
