CANADA: Banff's Future Fund Milestone, TasteTown at Boots and Hearts 2022, Luminato's Lineup, and More

GLOBAL: Hospitality investment firm LionGrove has acquired the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. With the purchase, the property will remain part of the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts family and will retain its current Wyndham Grand brand. This is the second Puerto Rico resort to be owned and operated by the LionGrove team (the other is the Wyndham Palmas Beach & Golf Resort).

NATIONAL: Westbank, a leading real estate development and city building practice in North America, has announced Tyson Parker in the newly created position of vice president of experiential development. In his role, Parker will be deeply involved in creating live and virtual experiences across Westbank’s projects, including establishing multi-tiered entertainment strategies that embrace arts, culture, music, food, retail, and design. Tyson brings experience from previous positions as the head of artist and music industry relations at Bell Media and the vice president of corporate communications and media and artist relations for Universal Music Canada.

BANFF: The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity debuted the Jenny Belzberg Theatre—an establishment of the Future Fund—in early May and celebrated the opening of the revitalized venue with a weekend of free community events May 7-8. Also known as “The Jenny,” the venue is already celebrating a milestone in the Future Fund, which was set up by Jenny’s family and friends to support performing arts creation at the Banff Centre. As of June, gifts from individual and corporate funders valued at $400,000 have already been received, and the fund continues to grow.

TORONTO: Local media company powered by food enthusiasts TasteToronto has launched a partnership with annual music festival Boots and Hearts for its 2022 iteration. Taking place Aug. 4-7 at Burl’s Creek, TasteToronto and Boots and Hearts are debuting TasteTown, an all-immersive, country-western VIP experience filled with activations and a one-of-a-kind lineup of food vendors from the city’s top restaurants. Attendees can expect brisket and fall-off-the-bone ribs from Toronto’s go-to Texas-style barbecue spot Cherry Street BBQ, Birria tacos from Atomic 10, mini glazed sour cream doughnuts from COPS, and more. Tickets, plus more information on attending vendors, are available on Boots and Hearts’ website.

VANCOUVER: Luminato 2022 kicks off on June 9 at 7 p.m. with a concert by iskwē titled acākosīk, which means “the stars.” Running through June 19, programming also includes the Molinari Quartet on June 10 at 7 p.m., followed by Beverly Glenn-Copeland and the Queer Songbook Orchestra.
