MONTREAL: Festival AfroMonde returns to Montreal Aug. 25-28 at the Old Port of Montreal. The free multicultural festival aims to bring together communities from "here and far" to celebrate Africa and the Caribbean through humor, dance, and musical performances. Artists performing this year include DJAMBOOLA, AfroTonik (DJ CREW), and Mikey Dangerous. The popular AfroMonde Carnival activation will take place Aug. 28 at 2 p.m.
TORONTO: On the heels of its launch in the Canadian market earlier this year, cereal brand PEBBLES created a playful brand experience "beyond the bowl" for kids and kids at heart. The PEBBLES Playground, which ran from Aug. 11-14, was an experiential pop-up that invited fans to get creative and engage with PEBBLES creative stations, earn PEBBLES tokens, and take home PEBBLES swag. The playground was located at the centre court of Etobicoke's Sherway Gardens. But the fun continues at home—the brand will launch the #CreateWithPEBBLES creative challenge Sept. 4-30. NKPR, a Toronto-based, award-winning public relations agency established in 2002, announced the return of a series of film festival activations to ring in the agency's 20th anniversary, while celebrating the magic of the Toronto International Film Festival. This years lineup of marquee film festival initiatives includes the agency’s annual Festival Countdown party on Aug. 24; the IT House, an experiential hub, running Sept. 8-10; as well as the Artists for Peace and Justice Gala on Sept. 10, raising funds for education in Haiti and celebrating the organization’s long-standing commitment.
VANCOUVER: The Vancouver International Flamenco Festival's (VIFF) 32nd edition has announced its 2022 lineup of local, national, and international flamenco artists from Sept. 3-25. The 2022 iteration will feature live performances with both ticketed and free events. VIFF's magnum opus will be Mucha Muchacha—described as an ode to Spain's women artists—on Sept. 16 at the Norman Rothstein Theatre. Guests can expect other performances from Anastassiia Alexander, Kara Miranda Lawrence, and Flamenco Rosario.
Britannia Mine Museum's annual Copper & Fire Arts community event returns Sept. 17 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., featuring local B.C. artists and their unique metal and earthen crafts. The family-friendly event will showcase earth-inspired jewelry, sculpture, copper work, gemstone art, pottery, and painting—all inspired by the landscape, plant life, and forests of the Pacific Northwest. Tickets for the event can be purchased separately or with the purchase of general museum admission.
