CANADA: Endeavor Names New President of Global Partnerships, Algonquin College Debuts Event Management Degree Program, Celtic Colours International Festival, and More

GLOBAL: Global sports and entertainment company Endeavor has promoted Robbie Henchman to president of global partnerships at IMG Events, IMG Media, and On Location. In the role, Henchman will work alongside Endeavor’s senior leadership team to maximize partnership between the company’s divisions and business units. Henchman is known for creating the Women’s World Cup of Golf in 2000 and bringing Tiger Woods to China for the first time in 2001. Over the past decade, Henchman has also impacted IMG’s tennis, football, mass participation, and arts and entertainment events as well as Endeavor businesses, including UFC and marketing agency 160/90. 

CAPE BRETON ISLAND, N.S.: The Celtic Colours International Festival returns Oct. 7-15 on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. Tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world typically flock to the island for nine days in autumn to take part in an extensive lineup of hundreds of community events and to celebrate the music and the culture of the Celtic people. Attendees can expect Gaelic singing, Cape Breton fiddling, local dance traditions, and world-class bagpiping. Tickets are now on sale.

OTTAWA: Beginning in fall 2023, Algonquin College will offer a new degree program for students interested in a career in event management on local, national, and international levels. The Bachelor of Event, Sport, and Entertainment Management program aims to prepare students to enter the sports, entertainment, and event management industry with the skills to design, manage, and execute a wide range of events. The four-year honors degree program is the only Canadian business degree specializing in event management. The program will also include two paid, four-month co-op placements to provide students with practical, real-world experience in the events industry. Applications will open on Oct. 3.

TORONTO: The Ontario chapter of the nonprofit Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS) has announced the five regional sommeliers who have been selected to compete in the finals of the Best Ontario Sommelier Competition: Justin Madol, Connor Gallagher, Nathan Hooper, Christian Perreault Hamel, and Christophe Reitz. Taking place on Nov. 14 at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, sommeliers part of the competition will face off in a series of skill-testing scenarios, including blind tasting and service components. 

VANCOUVER: The Vancouver International Guitar Festival (VGIF) takes place Sept. 24-25, inviting visitors to hear, play, and purchase handmade acoustic and electric guitars. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to take guitar master classes in a variety of styles such as improvisation, rockabilly, ragtime, and classical. Workshop highlights include an introduction to guitar building, setup, tonewood selection, and boutique guitar marketing. The VIGF will also host the first Canadian appearance of the Boutique Guitar Showcase, hosted by curator Jamie Gale, who will present 50 handmade guitars. Live music—including, of course, live guitar demonstrations—will also be featured.
