CANADA: Haunted Pub Crawl in Montreal, Swedish Christmas Fair in Toronto, Chef-Led Culinary Tours in Vancouver, and More

GLOBAL: Hilton has announced the signing of the first Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in Costa Rica, the Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste, currently under construction and expected to open in 2025. Located on a peninsula with panoramic ocean views, Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will offer 190 guest rooms and 25 Waldorf Astoria branded residences. The property will focus on sustainable luxury with an emphasis on architecture that blends into Costa Rica’s lush surroundings. Culinary offerings at the resort will include a signature restaurant and bar, a specialty outlet, and a gelato shop, while other amenities will include a spa and a wellness center with a state-of-the-art gym, movement studio, outdoor yoga, and pools. For events, the property will offer approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting and event facilities, including indoor and outdoor space, an event lawn, and a ceremonial pavilion.

MONTREAL: Montreal has over 40 supposed haunted drinking establishments, including night clubs, burlesque halls, dive bars, taverns, and more. Led by a professional ghost storyteller, the Haunted Montreal Pub Crawl visits three of the city’s most famous haunted pubs. While enjoying beverages, attendees will hear the spookiest stories about these establishments, including the recently burned John Doe pub, the mysterious McKibbin’s Irish Pub, Hurley’s Irish Pub—haunted by a ghost known as the “Burning Lady—and more. Guests will also receive a complimentary map detailing dozens of other haunted drinking establishments to visit after the pub crawl is finished. This 18-and-over event starts on Sundays at 3 p.m.

TORONTO: The Swedish Christmas Fair, hosted by SWEA Toronto, will come to Daniels Spectrum from Nov. 19-20. The fair will feature Swedish Christmas food, design, folk art, crafts, traditions, and more. This year, visitors will be invited to enjoy Swedish food and candy and drink Glögg (Swedish mulled wine). There will also be a traditional Lucia procession, Swedish folk dancers and singers, and a dance around the Christmas tree. The event will run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 19 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 20, and admission is free.

WinterFest at Canada’s Wonderland will treat guests to an immersive holiday experience taking place on select dates from Nov. 18-Dec. 31. The event will feature ice skating, over a dozen live shows and holiday entertainment, festive food and beverage, and hundreds of Christmas trees. Guests will be able to take a stroll through the “Season of Lights,” which will celebrate the diversity of the holiday season with light displays honoring Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Chinese New Year, First Nations observances, The Nativity, and more. Visitors will also be able to do their holiday shopping at stalls where local artists will sell handcrafted products from a variety of categories including winter accessories, personal care products, art, home decor, jewelry, and apparel. Tickets for the all-ages event start at $29.99 and are available online.

VANCOUVER: Those with New Year’s resolutions to explore more can attend a 3.5-hour culinary and cultural walking tour of Vancouver’s colorful and historic Chinatown District, happening Jan. 1-9, 2023. Tour guides (real off-duty chefs) will lead attendees through the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and historic Chinatown landmarks before exploring the shops. There, guests will have the opportunity to explore food, cookware, pastry, tea, and herbal medicine shops. A dim sum lunch is also a part of this unique, small-group tour.
