GLOBAL: Global, full-service hotel management company Valor Hospitality Partners has announced the signing of its newest property, IntercityHotel Tashkent, in franchise partnership with Deutsche Hospitality. The 122-key property is set to open in Q1 of 2023 and marks Valor Hospitality’s second outpost in Uzbekistan. Upon opening, it will boast offerings that cater to both business and leisure travelers, including a full-service gym, a deluxe spa and indoor swimming pool, plus two on-site dining outlets.
NATIONAL: IllumiNATION—which showcases Canadian talent, arts, and culture—is taking place Dec. 21-Jan. 8. The event will also feature a television show co-produced by Rogers TV Ottawa and Canadian Heritage that will also boast a slew of performances courtesy of performers from Ontario to Manitoba, to Yukon, Alberta, New Brunswick, and Quebec. The program will kick off on Canadian Heritage’s YouTube channel as well as on Rogers TV and OMNI Television on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. local time.
BANFF: Banff is celebrating the winter season with a Hot Chocolate Trail in partnership with Lake Louise where participants can sample festive hot chocolate drinks from 24 participating cafes and restaurants across the Canadian city. The chocolatey specials are on order now through Jan. 1, 2023, and guests can expect offerings boasting white chocolate, chilis, and crushed candy canes, plus adult-only options like the Spicy Bear Hot Chocolate from Bear Street Tavern, which is made with vodka and garnished with a cinnamon stick.
Throughout the snowy season, Banff National Park is hosting horse-drawn sleigh rides where attendees can cozy up under blankets as horses pull them through Lake Louise, beneath Victoria Glacier, and through the Ice Falls. During the 40-minute experience, guides will point out wildlife and share stories on the history of the area. Hot drinks will be served and sleigh rides will end at a campfire, weather permitting. Reservations can be made via Get Your Guide starting at $35.12 per person.
CALGARY: Calgary’s winter festival Chinook Blast returns for the 2023 season and is accepting applications for ideas for sporting, recreation, arts, and cultural events. If selected, applicants will receive funding to turn their idea into a reality and become a part of Chinook Blast’s 2023 programming, which also includes anchor events like High Performance Rodeo, BIG Winter Classic, Block Heater, Ethnik Festival, and more. The application is available via Chinook Blast’s website.
