LOS ANGELES: Adapted from the novel by Hugo Award-winning science fiction author Octavia Butler, the FX series Kindred centers on the life of Dana James, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who suffers from being violently pulled back and forth in time, finding herself at a 19th century plantation. To mirror Dana’s time-traveling experiences, FX is putting on a multimedia art exhibit Dec. 8-9 at Brand of Vices—titled Kindred: A Gallery Through Time—that will transport attendees between modern-day Los Angeles and the 19th century American South. The television network collaborated with Black-owned art gallery Band of Vices for the exhibit, which features work by eight artists and explores themes of Afrofuturism, duality, identity, and time. Following the activation, Post & Beam will feature a special pre-fixe menu at the Baldwin Hills restaurant.
