CANADA: Calgary White Hat Awards, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa Groundbreaking, Casa Loma's Symphony in the Gardens, and More

CALGARY: Last week, Tourism Calgary hosted the 60th anniversary of the Calgary White Hat Awards, recognizing outstanding tourism and hospitality employees in 22 different categories. The event, held at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, celebrated the industry and the individuals who make their careers across the tourism sector. Winners included representatives from the Calgary Zoo, WestJet, Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, Hyatt Regency Calgary, and more.

HALIFAX: Earlier this month, five community-minded volunteers were honored for their participation in Take the Lead, a program designed to help pitch and attract regional, national, and international events to the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Take the Lead, a free program supported by Discover Halifax, encourages Nova Scotians to leverage their networks and connections to bring events to their region that may not have otherwise considered Halifax to host.

MONTREAL: For the seventh year in a row, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has ranked MontrĂ©al as the top host destination for international association events in North America. Worldwide, MontrĂ©al ranked 14th for the number of attendees hosted and 24th for the number of events. This means the city outperformed other destinations such as Toronto, Vancouver, Boston, Chicago, Mexico City, Tokyo, Glasgow, and Zurich.

OTTAWA: After delays due to the pandemic, the time has finally come to break ground on the future Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place June 6, featuring guests holding Hard Rock's legendary guitar-handled shovels.

TORONTO: Casa Loma's Symphony in the Gardens event series returns, with performances on Monday evenings beginning June 5. Maestro Paolo Busato and his Casa Loma Symphony Orchestra—with special guest vocalists and players—will perform en plein air at the venue's Glass Pavilion and the Gardens. Tickets are $40 per person.
