US: New Hospitality Hires in Chicago, Houston, and Santa Cruz—and More

CHICAGO: Meet Chicago Northwest announced Mario Farfan as its newest group sales leader account executive. In this new role, Farfan will incorporate his experience as the founder of the Northwest Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, where he spent much of his career on business development within the Latino community throughout Chicago’s northwest suburbs. He is a U.S. Army veteran with over 22 years of experience in community and business development across the Midwest including Milwaukee, Chicago, and surrounding suburbs.

HOUSTON: Thompson Houston, a highly anticipated luxury hotel set to open this fall, will be led by managing director Ted Knighton and director of sales and marketing Lisa Hudson. Knighton will lead the hotel operations of Thompson Houston, while Hudson will oversee the hotel’s sales, marketing, and events team, as well as assist in dedicated efforts to drive the property’s overall revenue through market analysis and strategic planning.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.: Visit Myrtle Beach President and CEO Karen Riordan joined other distinguished leaders from across South Carolina to participate in the Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI), an award-winning program of Furman University’s Riley Institute. Now in its 20th year, the program equips participants with tools and perspectives to leverage diversity to improve organizational outcomes and drive social and economic progress in South Carolina. Riordan is one of 42 individuals to be part of the 17th Lowcountry cohort.

NEW ORLEANS: The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is replacing 1.9 million square feet of traditional roofing with a new, energy-efficient roofing system. The $40 million roof replacement project is part of a $557 million capital improvement plan and will be under construction until mid-2024. The new roof will advance the convention center’s sustainability goals and help maintain its LEED Gold certification status while still meeting all requirements for durability and safety in all weather conditions, including hurricanes.

SANTA CRUZ, CALIF.: Hotel Paradox, Autograph Collection has selected Stefen Shatto as executive chef to oversee Solaire Restaurant + Bar in addition to banquets, catering, and in-room and poolside dining at the 170-room boutique hotel. Shatto's culinary career spans more than a decade. He has gained firsthand experience in the traditions and practices of French artistic cuisine, working in the kitchens of James Beard-acclaimed restaurants in Omaha, Neb. In his most recent hotel culinary position, Shatto was executive chef at Inn at the Pier in Pismo Beach, Calif.
