1. TRASHING TED: Has TED become too luxurious, too corporate, too nice? One writer at Mashable thinks so. "In groups, or with strangers, this year's TED attendees were afraid to criticize any given talk lest it was one that gave someone there an epiphany—and lest it get in the way of the networking most were really eager to do in order to increase the value of their $7,500 tickets. Alone and in confidence, however, they displayed unease about this giant soap bubble of hope we appeared to be inflating, one that no one dared pop for fear of being labeled a pessimist." http://on.mash.to/XVbjIz

2. DINE LIKE THE PRESIDENT: We may not know what happened at a secretive dinner President Obama had with 12 key Republican senators this week, but at least we're learning what was served at Plume restaurant at the Jefferson Hotel. Washington Post: "Of the 16 people seated in the hotel’s private Parlor Boardroom (including the 12 senators and presumably a handful of staffers), there were six orders of the filet, five of the Colorado lamb açaĂ, four Lobster Thermidors, and one special-ordered vegetarian plate. Dessert options included peanut butter crumble, heart of guana chocolate tart, and iced Tahitian vanilla and praline bar. The president had arranged for the $85 per person tab (not including tax or tip) to be billed directly to the White House." http://wapo.st/13IhyUB

3. REINVENTING THE ART SHOW: The Armory Show in New York, currently under way, has adapted to claims it was too corporate and to competition from the Frieze art fair. New York Times: "A call for more transparency, for instance, has resulted in tote bags, T-shirts, and passes lettered with insider statistics: that the average cost of a booth is $24,000, for instance, or that 12,365 V.I.P. cards are issued." http://nyti.ms/YGN9BD

Would you pay $9,000 for a soda? That's the ask for a sculpture of a McDonald's cup at the Armory Show. New York Post: "The contemporary art is emblazoned with the golden arches—set against bright red flowers—and comes enclosed in a fancy plastic case." http://bit.ly/W9A1VY

4. DAVID STARK REFLECTS: The event superstar spoke at his alma mater, the Rhode Island School of Design, this week. Rhode Island Monthly: "You can’t major in the work RISD alum and event producer David Stark now does for clients that range from the Global Volatility Summit to Beyonce. It may seem a far ways from his painting major, but in fact, as the head of David Stark Design and Production told RISD students during a presentation Tuesday night, Stark still feels like he paints every day." http://bit.ly/WSKJmo
