1. BLACK LIVES MATTER CO-OPTING CAMPAIGN EVENTS: Activists from the Black Lives Matter movement have successfully crashed campaign events for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in multiple cities to draw attention to issues of racial justice. But security stopped protestors from entering a campaign event for Hillary Clinton on Tuesday because the venue already was full. For event planners, the disruptions serve as lessons in security and event management. Vox: “One of the main lines of criticism leveled at the activists who've interrupted Sanders events is that they're not putting Hillary Clinton up to the same level of scrutiny. … But there's actually a perfectly nonconspiratorial, even obvious reason that Hillary Clinton campaign events aren't getting disrupted: Hillary Clinton isn't holding disruptable campaign events. She's holding small events with voters in early primary states, or massively stage-managed rallies — and always with a Secret Service detail at the ready.” http://bit.ly/1DGgepa
2. WARPED TOUR MAY BECOME 21-AND-OVER FEST: After 21 years, the Vans Warped Tour music festival is doing some soul-searching and may make changes as radical as banning anyone under 21 years old from attending. The tour wrapped up a particularly difficult run this weekend, dealing with fallout from sexual misconduct allegations against members of two bands. Tour founder and promoter Kevin Lyman has dealt with pressure from social media, traditional media, and colleagues in the industry and said he is considering age restrictions for fans, artists, and crew. The Stranger: “It’s possible the drama that transpired this year was a wake-up call, rather than a sign of disaster. Then again, the challenges of presenting boundary-pushing entertainment for children seem to get more complicated all the time.” http://bit.ly/1JSDPUs
3. WHY A BEER BRAND IS RENTING OUT WISCONSIN-THEME CABINS: The beer brand Leinenkugel tricked out two vacation rental properties—one in Brooklyn and one in Austin, Texas—as Wisconsin-style cabins and is offering them for rent on Airbnb through August. Adweek: “The ‘Leinie Lodges’ provide more down-to-earth accommodations. Renters get thoroughly modern, upscale digs—with lots of Leinenkugel's-branded extras. These include bean-bag toss games, bar signage, canoe paddles, Adirondack chairs and plenty of crimson throw-pillows embroidered with the brewer's name. At each location, the fridges come packed with Leinenkugel's brews.” http://bit.ly/1Mmfatn
