Former hotelier and nightlife entrepreneur Steven Greenberg opened his newest project last Friday. 230 Fifth has a nicely appointed 14,000-square-foot rooftop, complete with palm trees, umbrellas, a large bar, and a view of the Empire State Building just eight blocks away. The 8,000-square-foot fully enclosed penthouse lounge and restaurant is decorated in a 1940’s modernist style that includes vintage furnishings from Greenberg’s personal collection. The menu will feature refined traditional Malaysian food courtesy of consulting executive chef Zak Pelaccio (of 5 Ninth and the Fatty Crab), and the bar will serve a blend of Old World and new cocktails. —Caryl Chinn
