Brooklyn to Get New Park

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has transferred ownership of Piers 1, 2, 3, and part of Pier 5 to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation, a newly formed agency appointed to build an 85-acre park that will stretch from Atlantic Avenue to north of the Manhattan Bridge. According to The New York Times, construction on the park will begin next year, and should be 85 percent finished by 2010. Brooklyn’s last major new park was Prospect Park, which opened 135 years ago.
