1. STUNT CHANGES NAME OF ALASKA’S CAPITAL TO “UNO”: Juneau, Alaska, will be renamed Uno after the Mattel card game in a stunt announced on April Fools’ Day. Mashable: “The partnership will kick off a new Mattel campaign aimed at promoting a new version of the game stocked with more ‘wild’ cards. … The brand is also handing out free decks of cards at the ‘UNO’ City Hall all day and making a commemorative donation to a local nonprofit that will go toward local youth programs.” http://on.mash.to/21WfB0M
2. LOW-KEY “NON-FUND-RAISERS” COULD HELP GALAS LATER: Museums and other charitable organizations are hosting more non-fund-raising events for members set to build ties that could later lead to giving at galas. Chicago organizations including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago are using the strategy and planning more casual events. Crain’s Chicago Business: “The museum hosts about 50 of these events annually as well as two galas a year, and they differ from traditional fundraisers in both look and feel. They're for members only—the general public usually is not invited. They include an educational component beyond the video played or ask delivered at more formal benefits. They're also more relaxed, offering guests unstructured time to mingle and learn.” http://bit.ly/1qm8Zgq
3. NEW TRADE SHOW FOR TRUCKING INDUSTRY: After a shake-up involving competing shows, two trucking industry groups—the American Trucking Associations and Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association—will form a new trade show with event management company Messe Frankfurt. Trucks.com: “Truck shows in the U.S. are fragmented with nearly every segment of the industry – from work trucks to garbage trucks to alternative fuel vehicles – holding their own conferences. Major truck manufacturers decided this year to boycott the Mid-America Trucking Show being held in Louisville, Ky., this week in favor of the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Germany in September. … The new show will be targeted at the entire transportation industry, including the manufacturers of commercial vehicles, systems and component suppliers, the investment community, and trade, financial and general media.” http://bit.ly/1Y3G8Z3
