Uniqlo, purveyor of simple, inexpensive garments and accessories (think of a Japanese Gap), launched its global flagship in SoHo last Thursday with a party packed with downtowners (the swarm of guests included Project Runway’s Jeffrey Sebelia, Axl Rose, Amy Sacco, and clotheshorse John McDonald) and beats and tunes from Tanaka and DJ trio the MisShapes. A ceremonial sake toast marked the opening, and master chef Masaharu Morimoto commanded a sushi station on the large landing of the glass, steel, and exposed-brick emporium’s staircase. Matthew David Events handled decor and production for the party andLaurence Craig Catering served cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Paul Wilmot Communications handled PR.
