Springfield, Virginia’s R&R Catering is
adding a new facet to its menu: non-dairy kosher cuisine. The company is
catering its first kosher event on June 24 after a longtime client requested food for a kosher wedding. “We will be cooking at the Jewish Community
Center in Fairfax,” said R&R event designer Michelle Bloxton.
Though the company has not yet developed a standard kosher menu, there are plans
to make kosher catering a permanent offering, and the Jewish Community Center has
agreed to allow the company to use the facility for future events, Bloxton
said.
Sample menu items for next weekend’s wedding include Szechuan guacamole, teriyaki chicken with portobello mushrooms, tuna skewers with wasabi dip, and Asian vegetable pad thai. (FYI: The bride and groom were missionaries in Latin America and Asia, and the menu was tailored to blend their past experiences.) R&R handles roughly 6,000 corporate events a year, ranging from lunchtime drop-offs to full-scale galas.
