Tridel chose a traditional Asian decor theme for its 2007 Long Term Service awards dinner at Royalton Banquet Hall. The annual event honours employees who have worked with the company for up to 35 years. Janice Peplow, social committee chair for Tridel, and her colleagues on the committee decided on the Far East theme because they felt it would support their goal of creating a tranquil, goal-oriented atmosphere. Helen Bukovec, a planner with Elevated Events, helped them to achieve their vision.
At the registration tables, guests collected small red envelopes with their names on them; in Asian tradition, red envelopes contain money or symbolic items for luck and prosperity. Bukovec created simple dinner table settings, with fortune cookies on each plate, framed menu cards, and a small black frame box centrepiece filled with a cream-coloured pillar candle and river rocks. Shimmering pale balloon treatments floated above each table, with coloured paper lanterns dangling from the bottom of each balloon cluster. The balloons were tethered by string to sand-filled mini kimonos on top of the tables. The award ceremony took place on a stage decorated with a wide shoji screen backdrop, tall bamboo arrangements flanking each side, and low mini floral accents in the front.
The 46 award winners were invited to the stage and were presented with bouquets of flowers.
